Current status
After fundraising was completed in 2025, co-owners and our operating partner attaka began exploring how Bamboo Forest House could create value for visitors and the surrounding community. Through discussions and voting among co-owners, the project chose to begin by activating the bamboo forest through nature-based experiences.
The first of these initiatives is the Bamboo Forest Experience, launching in Summer 2026.
Longer-term plans for the property, including potential accommodation and additional facilities, will continue to be explored and developed together with co-owners over time.

Hayama – A Seaside Retreat at the Gateway to Kamakura

About the property
Situated on a quiet hillside in Kamiyamaguchi, Bamboo Forest House is centered around an 80-year-old residence and approximately 7,000 square meters of bamboo forest that has long been part of the local landscape.
The property was once home to Watanabe-san, a respected local farmer and community leader. It also contains a World War II air-raid shelter hidden within the grounds, reflecting the area’s history and connection to past generations.
Today, Bamboo Forest House serves as a place where people can engage with nature, local culture, and the ongoing stewardship of the bamboo forest. Through community ownership and local collaboration, the property continues to evolve while preserving its unique character and history.
